53 more COVID deaths on Thursday, 105 last two days. Hospitalization numbers continue to drop.

Gov. Andy Beshear on Thursday reported 1,796 new COVID-19 cases in Kentucky and 53 deaths.

Of the new cases, 490 (27.3 percent) are children 18-years-old and younger. The new cases increase the total number of cases in Kentucky to 732,518.

The 53 new deaths raise the state’s death toll to 9,530 (1.3 percent fatality rate) and gives Kentucky 320 COVID-related deaths since October 14 (40 per day), and 105 deaths the last two days.

The positivity rate is 6.53, down from Wednesday’s 6.83 percent.

Officials said 1,092 people are hospitalized, down 23 from Wednesday, with 328 patients in ICUs, down 27 from Wednesday. There are 199 people on ventilators, down eight from Wednesday.

Grayson County’s rate of occurrence is 43.2 (the same as Tuesday), the 16th highest of Kentucky’s 120 counties and the third highest in western Kentucky behind McLean (48.1) and Muhlenberg (43.9) counties.

Sixty-four of Kentucky’s 120 counties are in the “red,” indicating a “critical spread” of the virus.
