U.S. News & World Report has recognized Grayson County Middle School (GCMS) as one of the top middle schools in Kentucky.

GCMS placed in the top 30 percent of all Kentucky middle schools, making it a “Best Middle School,” according to the magazine.

This marks the first time U.S. News & World Reports ranked public middle schools.

GCMS earned the ranking as 55 percent of students scored at or above the proficient level in math, with 61 percent of students scoring at or above proficient in reading. The magazines rankings indicate GCMS is ranked the No. 85 middle school in Kentucky, based on the recently released K-PREP scores.

The top five public middle schools in Kentucky based on the magazine’s rankings are Scapa at Bluegrass (Fayette Co.), J. Graham Brown School (Jefferson Co.), Barret Traditional Middle School (Jefferson Co.), Anchorage Independent Public School (Jefferson Co.), and South Warren Middle School (Warren Co.).

The students’ proficiency in math and reading were half the formula used to rank the schools, with the school’s socioeconomic demographics also taken into consideration.
