The reward for information on the murder of a well-known Laurel County farmer and businessman has been more than doubled.

After the September 25, 2021, murder of 62-year-old Bryan McCarty, and with no arrests or fruitful leads in the ensuing two weeks, an anonymous donor offered $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect[s] responsible for the murder.

On Monday, Laurel County Sheriff John Root said the reward has been increased to $25,000.

McCarty was found shot to death inside his home on Maple Grove Road, about seven miles southwest of London. Laurel County deputies discovered his body while responding to a welfare check on the farmer and rental property owner.

“He was very well thought of and just a gentleman. We’re quite alarmed out in rural Kentucky that we have a murder and nobody’s in jail yet,” Gilbert Acciardo, with the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, told media outlets.

Anyone with information on McCarty’s murder is asked to either call 606-864-6600, message the sheriff’s office on Facebook or email gacciardo@laurelcountysheriff.com.
