Louisville officials announced a reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who shot and killed a teenager at a school bus stop earlier this week.

Tyree Smith, 16, was fatally shot Wednesday morning at about 6:30 in the drive-by shooting as he and several other students waited for the bus at Dr. W.J. Hodge Street and West Chestnut Street in the Russell neighborhood.

Police said two other teenagers also suffered non-life threatening gunshot wounds.

Smith was a student at Eastern High School.

Police were initially looking for a gray Jeep with an Illinois license plate in connection with the shooting. The vehicle, which was spotted near the scene on surveillance video, was found in St. Matthews in the parking lot of Jamestown Apartments, off Breckinridge Lane. The vehicle had been set on fire.

Officials are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person[s] responsible for the shooting.

“There are people who know who shot (Smith), and they need to come forward,” Louisville Metro Police Chief Chief Erika Shields said. “If money motivates people where conscious won’t, we’ll take it.”
