Playing what was scheduled to be the first game of a boy/girl, varsity doubleheader on Saturday against the Allen County-Scottsville Patriots, the Lady Cougar soccer team wound up playing  JV contest as the Patriots did not field a varsity team. ACS won the game 2-0.

The first 15 minutes of the game were played exclusively in the Lady Cougar end of the field. While they eventually did penetrate the Patriot end of the field, they never put a shot on goal.

In the 13th minute of play, the Patriots took a 1-0 lead when freshman Gabrielle Corbett won a ball in the midfield and split the Cougar defense to take the ball in all alone on Cougar goal keeper Eva Pierce and put the ball into the corner of the net.

That turned out to be the only score of the first half, but less than two minutes into the second half, the Patriots scored again when sophomore Kynleigh Shultz won a Pierce goal kick about 30 yards in front of the Cougar goal, took it in and scored to make it 2-0.

The Patriots missed the chance to make it 3-0 in the 41st minute of play when Shultz missed an empty net to the left from about 15 yards.

That was it for the remainder of the game.
