A Leitchfield apartment building has been destroyed in an early Thursday morning blaze.

At approximately 4:55 Thursday morning, the Leitchfield and Clarkson Fire Departments responded to 100 Layman Drive and found the building, which houses several apartments, fully engulfed in flames.

All occupants made it safely out of the building.

Firefighters battled the blaze from inside and out for about 45 minutes, but the structure was a total loss.

Leitchfield Fire Chief Tim Duvall said it appears a discarded cigarette may have started the fire, as the blaze has been ruled accidental.

The Leitchfield Police Department and Grayson County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
