The former Leitchfield Police Department building is changing hands.
On Tuesday, Grayson County Fiscal Court approved the purchase of the old LPD headquarters at 117 South Main Street.
Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson said the county will purchase the building for $250,000, with a $50,000 payment made by June 30, 2021, followed by two $100,000 payments in June 2022 and June 2023.
Additionally, the county has purchased the apartment complex behind the former police department building, and plans to level the complex to make room for an addition onto the building.
Adding on to the existing building will enable the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office to move from the Leitchfield Town Square to the old police department building.
Henderson noted that a drive-thru will be added to the building, allowing for more convenience for residents to pay property taxes. Parking space will also be expanded from its current single digit number of spaces.
The current Grayson Co. Sheriff’s Office headquarters will be sold, as Henderson said Sheriff Norman Chaffins has already fielded purchase inquiries.
No construction or other timelines have yet been officially announced.
