Kentucky State Police say it appears a murder-suicide resulted in the deaths of family members near McHenry on the afternoon of May 19.
Kentucky State Police Post 16 spokesman Corey King said investigators have not reached a final determination that one of the four decedents killed the other three, but it appears that is the cause of the deaths.
The first three victims police identified were 20-year-old Hunter L. Owings, of Centertown, and 44-year-old Nora J. Owings and 66-year-old Calvin Leisure Jr., both of Beaver Dam. They were found outside a residence on the property. All three had been shot to death.
The fourth body, found in an apartment in a burned building adjacent to the residence in the 5700 block of Owensboro Road, was identified as 38-year-old Calvin Leisure III, of Beaver Dam. He also appeared to have been shot, according to King.
Police previously said it was probable the victims were related, and according to Nora J. Owings’ obituary, Leisure Jr. was her father, Hunter L. Owings was her son and Leisure III was her brother.
Police said detectives believe Leisure III killed his three relatives before killing himself.
According to their obituaries, Calvin Leisure Jr., was a farmer and U.S. Air Force and National Guard veteran; Calvin Leisure III was a U.S. Army veteran and former emergency medical technician; Nora Owings worked at a factory; and Hunter Owings was a farmer.
Police have yet to determine a motive for the murder-suicide.
