First responders have arrived at a fatal plane crash in Breathitt County.
Kentucky State Police and the Breathitt County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to WYMT.com that a small plane crashed in the Frozen community of Breathitt County Monday afternoon just before 2:00 eastern time.
“At least” one person has died in the crash, Kentucky State Police told the television station. Police are awaiting flight log information.
The FAA is expected on the scene Tuesday. Officials do not know what led to the plane going down.
The crash occurred in a field at the junction of Hwy 1812 and Hwy 378, about 10 miles north of Jackson.
Officials said the FAA out of Indianapolis contacted the Julian Carroll Airport in Jackson about 1:42 Monday afternoon and reported that a “small aircraft” dropped from radar in Breathitt County.
Kentucky State Police, the Breathitt County Coroner’s Office and other first responders continue to work the scene.
