A northern Kentucky woman has been arrested after her toddler consumed marijuana and she performed sex acts in from of the child.
On Monday, Boone County deputies began investigating and viewing a video chat between an inmate at the Boone County Detention Center and the inmates girlfriend, 22-year-old Jessica Ahlbrand, of Florence.
During the video chat, Ahlbrand tells her boyfriend that she could not find her “snacks,” before insinuating the couple’s 18-month-old child consumed the “snacks.”
Deputies said they have reason to believe that the “snacks” contained THC (the ingredient that gives marijuana users a high), the Boone County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
The sheriff’s office said Ahlbrand then showed several photos of the child during the video chat to her boyfriend, with the child appearing to be under the influence. Deputies witnessed Ahlbrand and her boyfriend laughing at the photos, according to the sheriff’s office.
Furthermore, during the same video chat, police said Ahlbrand entered the child’s bedroom and performed sex acts while the child was in the room. Deputies said days later, on a separate video chat with her boyfriend, Ahlbrand once again performed sexual acts while the child was nearby.
Ahlbrand was arrested and charged with first-degree sexual abuse to a victim under 12 and first-degree criminal abuse to a child under 12. She was lodged in the Boone County Detention Center on a $250,000 cash bond.
The Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services took custody of the child, the sheriff’s office said.
