With coronavirus numbers in Grayson County experiencing a slight uptick in cases, Grayson Co. Health Department (GCHD) Director Josh Embry is encouraging residents to sign up for a vaccine.

“(On) Monday ALL residents and employees of this county (18-years-old) and older will become eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at GCHD,” Embry said. “I’ve heard so many in this population of people ask when this virus is going to end, and when life will get back to some level of normality. The fact of the matter is that we need as many people as possible to get vaccinated.”

Last week between Monday and Thursday, the health department reported 20 cases of the virus, and since April 2, 32 new cases have been confirmed (4.6 per day). Those cases raised the county’s incident rate back into the “orange” category, indicating an “accelerated spread” of the virus within the community, according to the Kentucky Department for Public Health.

In the few weeks prior to last week, the county experienced a declining incident rate, with Grayson Co. deemed a “yellow” county, signaling a “community spread” of the virus.

“PLEASE consider doing your part in helping our community, state, country, and the world get beyond this pandemic: Roll up your sleeve and get the vaccine,” Embry said. “There is a location that’s offering vaccinations for people 16-years-old and older. I’ve been told by management that Walgreens is offering the shot to those people as they have the Pfizer vaccine.”

To make a vaccine appointment at the health department, which opens at 7:30 a.m., call 270-259-3141.
