Nestled to the left of the fairly new playground at James D. Beville Park is a new, ground-breaking edition for children who visit the park.
The Miracle Museum was designed to stimulate sensory activity for children who have a harder time expressing needs and emotions, according to Tammee Saltsman, Leitchfield Parks and Recreation Director, who says anyone can find enjoyment at the new added play area.
The Grayson County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting in January to celebrate the new playground, is the third of its kind in Kentucky, and was built by a Grayson County company, Miracle Recreation.
Josh Wagner, Miracle Playground representative, reached out to Leitchfield Tourism Director Ilsa Johnson and Saltsman to share that he was allowed to offer the new playground equipment to a few cities in Kentucky at a discounted rate of $18,000, and he wanted his hometown to be one of the recipients. Once the playground hits the market the price will increase to $75,000, according to Saltsman, who said the funding of the playground was through a generous donation by a private donor and Leitchfield Tourism ($13,000), The Collectively Outside Foundation (heirs of James D. Beville Park), VFW Post 12175 ($9,000). The foundation was provided by the city of Leitchfield.
Leitchfield was the third city in Kentucky to install a sensory playground, and fourth in the United States.
