A man fatally shot by a Louisville Metro Police Department officer backed a car into the officer before the shooting, investigators said.
Police said 49-year-old Brian Allen Thurman was in a stolen car when he was pulled over by the officer on Nov. 22. Thurman later died at a hospital.
Body camera footage released by Kentucky State Police on Monday showed the officer, with gun drawn, commanding the driver to stop the vehicle before the rear of the car moves and makes contact with the officer’s body. Gunshots can be heard on the video.
Sgt. Billy Gregory, a state police spokesman, said the officer was alone when he pulled the vehicle over and was calling for backup when a woman on the passenger side got out of the car. The driver then backed the car into the officer and the officer fired, striking him.
The woman fled the scene and has not been found. The officer was taken to a hospital for injuries and released.
