
A death investigation is underway after a fatal police-involved shooting in Muhlenberg County.
Friday night at approximately 6:00, the Greenville Police Department arrived at a residence in the 400 block of James Street to serve a “mental health warrant,” according to Kentucky State Police, when a man shot at police before barricading himself inside the residence.
The Kentucky State Police Special Response Team arrived on scene and negotiated with the man for about four hours, authorities said. The man then exited the home armed with a rifle at about 2:10 Saturday morning, with a trooper shooting and killing the man.
The Muhlenberg County Coroner’s Office pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Kentucky State Police is leading the investigation.
The name of the decedent and the trooper involved in the shooting have not been released.
