A young Glasgow mother has perished and her baby injured after she crossed a highway median and hit a semi-truck.

According to Kentucky State Police, Thursday morning at 6:30, troopers responded to the 14 mile marker of the rain-soaked Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Parkway in Barren County on the report of a two-vehicle accident.

Police said the preliminary investigation revealed that 24-year-old Cassie Horton, of Glasgow, was driving a 2017 Ford Fiesta east when her vehicle crossed the median and entered the westbound lanes. The Ford struck a 2015 Volvo semi-truck, being driven by 60-year-old Stevie Surgener, of Eubank.

Horton was pronounced dead at the scene while her eight-month-old son was transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital before being airlifted to Norton Children’s Hospital. The baby, according to KSP, is in stable condition.

Surgener was uninjured in the collision.
