Ohio Co. felon facing felony drug, theft, gun charges after stealing copper cable

An Ohio County man has been jailed on felony drug and theft charges for stealing a copper cable from a business.

According to Ohio County Sheriff Tracy Beatty, Thursday morning at 10:00, deputies and Kentucky State Police arrived at 431 East Main Street in Rockport to investigate the theft of a copper cable from Murray Energy, at 3211 Hwy 85-E, in Centertown.

Beatty said that upon searching the property, police located the stolen copper cable in the suspect’s back yard, along with methamphetamine and an illegally altered firearm.

Police arrested John W. Dukes, 47, and charged him with theft by unlawful taking ( over $10,000 but under $1,000,000), possession of a firearm of a convicted felon, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine, firearm enhanced), possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana.

He is lodged in the Ohio County Detention Center.
