City and county officials have closed multiple parks after people continued to congregate despite mandated social distancing guidelines.

According to Leitchfield Parks and Recreation Director Tammee Saltsman, she and Leitchfield Mayor Rick Embry conferred on the issue of people, including children, gathering at the various parks around the city and came to a decision to close all city parks.

Saltsman said the walking trail at Beville Park remains open and people will be allowed to fish at the lake at Beville Park, but the playground and pavilion have been closed.

Grayson County Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson also announced that Logsdon Valley Park, adjacent to the Grayson County Judicial Center, has been closed. The public park in Big Clifty has also been closed.

Clarkson officials proclaimed that Clarkson City Park, “including the playground, ball and soccer fields, walking track, and nature trail” have been closed. The basketball court next to Clarkson Elementary School has also been closed.

Earlier this week, Gov. Andy Beshear issued a request to the state’s local officials to monitor the congregation of people at parks and take any action necessary to quash such gatherings.
