Two men with lengthy criminal records, and transporting over a pound of methamphetamine, were arrested by Kentucky State Police just outside Caneyville after a passenger led police on a high-speed chase.

Sunday morning at approximately 2:00, Kentucky State Police Trooper Casey Keown was patrolling near the 94 mile marker of the westbound Western Kentucky Parkway when he initiated a traffic stop on a 2007 Chevrolet Uplander for speeding.

Keown made contact with the driver, 29-year-old Trevion R. Clary, of Paducah, and after performing a field sobriety test on the suspect, placed Clary in the back of his cruiser. Police said that while Keown was placing Clary in his cruiser, the Uplander’s passenger, 27-year-old Zachary A. Bonn, also of Paducah, drove the vehicle from the scene, with Keown giving chase.

Bonn exited the parkway at Caneyville, according to police, and traveled south on Hwy 79, with speeds reaching 100 miles per hour. The suspect then turned right onto Windy Ridge Road and continued to drive at a high rate of speed when he crashed the vehicle near the 1000 block of Windy Ridge Road.

Bonn, unhurt in the accident, then fled Keown on foot. As the trooper gave chase, Bonn ignored his commands to stop, resulting in Keown using his taser on the suspect. He was taken into custody without further incident.

While searching the wrecked minivan, Keown located 1.4 pounds of methamphetamine.

Bonn was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), DUI, speeding (26 mph or more over the limit), two count of fleeing or evading police (in a motor vehicle, on foot), driving on a suspended license, failure to maintain insurance, possession of a controlled substance (drug unspecified), and failure to wear a seat belt.

Clary was charged with speeding (14 mph over the limit), two counts of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine, drug unspecified), and possession of marijuana.

Both suspects were lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center. Clary is no longer listed as an inmate.

Assisting at the scene were Trooper Joey Beasley and Grayson County Deputy Zane Greer.

As aforementioned, both Bonn and Clary have lengthy criminal records, including a February 2017 manslaughter conviction for Clary in Christian County.

According to media reports, in that case, Clary and another man were originally charged with murder in the December 2014 death of 20-year-old Alicia Jackson, who was found murdered in her Hopkinsville home. She had been beaten and shot.

When Clary was served with the murder warrant, he was already in jail for “shooting up” a Hopkinsville house in November 2012. Two adults and one juvenile were inside the home.

Bonn has a rap sheet going back to at least 2015 for primarily methamphetamine trafficking and drug possession.

In December 2015, he was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine). In that arrest it was noted that Bonn “has a history of multiple assaults and other crimes.”

In December 2017, Bonn was a passenger in a vehicle that fled police before crashing in Draffenville, in Marshall County. He was charged with trafficking in and possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) in that case.

In September 2018, the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office reported on its Facebook page that Bonn had been arrested for trafficking in marijuana.
