The Franklin County Schools Superintendent has been indicted on a bribery charge.
Mark Kopp, 48, of Frankfort, was indicted Tuesday on a misdemeanor charge of attempted bribery of a public servant.
Kopp told the State-Journal on Tuesday, “I have no idea what the premise of this is, so I have no comment.”
According to the indictment, Kopp “intentionally engaged in conduct which would constitute the crime of Bribery of a Public Servant if the attendant circumstances were as he believed them to be, or, intentionally did or omitted to do anything which, under the circumstances as he believed them to be, is a substantial step in a course of conduct planned to culminate in his commission of the crime.”
If convicted, Kopp faces up to 12 months in jail and a $500 fine.
Kopp has been superintendent of Franklin County Schools since July 2017. Prior to that, he worked in the Hardin County School District from 2001 until 2017, where he was chief academic officer and associate superintendent for instructional services.
