A Caneyville man has been arrested for the second time in less than a month after passing out on a porch with a large knife in his possession.
Thursday night at about 6:45, Kentucky State Police, the Caneyville Police Department and EMS responded to the 1400 block of Morgantown Road after an anonymous caller reported a man passed out on a porch.
As Kentucky State Trooper Jakob Clemons was en route, Caneyville Police Chief Anthony Clark and EMS made contact with 35-year-old Nathan Sanford, of Caneyville, who authorities found passed out on the home’s porch.
Upon waking Sanford up, the arrest citation says the suspect became “belligerent and balled up his fists and acted as if he was going to fight” Clark and EMS workers. Clark then located a large knife in Sanford’s pocket.
Upon Clemons arriving, he found that Sanford was slurring his speech, had a difficult time keeping his eyes open and was “drenched in sweat.” and under the influence of “some type of intoxicant,” according to the citation. Clemons arrested Sanford and as he walked the suspect to his cruiser, Sanford “could barely walk due to losing his balance,” the citation said.
Sanford was charged with menacing, third-degree criminal trespassing and public intoxication (excludes alcohol). Prior to being lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center, Sanford was taken to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center for medical clearance.
This marks Sanford’s second arrest in less than a month. On Sunday afternoon, June 16, the Morgantown Police Department responded to Hwy 185 (Bowling Green Road) on the report of a reckless driver. Morgantown Police Chief Giles Taylor said that upon making contact with the vehicle Sanford fled police, turning north onto Hwy 79 (Caneyville Road).
Taylor said the chase continued for about nine miles before Sanford ran out of gas.
In that case, Sanford was charged with two counts of wanton endangerment of a police officer, wanton endangerment, fleeing or evading police, reckless driving, possession of marijuana, driving on a suspended/revoked license, speeding 26 mph or more over the limit, and several other traffic violations.
Sanford was also served with an arrest warrant out of Butler County.
