The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has closed two beaches at Barren River Lake.

Officials said The Narrows and Quarry Road Beaches are closed until further notice after routine testing at the two beaches showed “high E. coli levels.”

E. coli is a naturally occurring bacteria, but swimming is not recommended in areas with high bacteria levels, according to authorities. The beaches will remain closed as Corps of Engineers personnel continue to monitor the water quality. The water will be tested again next week.

Bailey’s Point C area and Beaver Creek Beach remain open to swimmers after testing showed water at the two locations is safe.
