Breckinridge County Attorney Bradley Butler has announced that he is seeking the recently vacated position of District Court Judge of the 46th Judicial District, covering Grayson, Meade and Breckinridge Counties.

Judge Kenneth H. Goff resigned his seat as judge in the 46th Judicial District in January after being appointed by Gov. Matt Bevin to fill the 46th Circuit Court judgeship after the death of Judge Robert Miller in September 2018. Goff was sworn-in on February 1, 2019.

The district judge position left vacant by Goff’s appointment will be filled in a special election on November 5, 2019.

Born, raised and educated in Breckinridge County, Butler said he immediately returned home to practice law after receiving his Bachelor’s Degree from Western Kentucky University and his Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Louisville in 2003.

Outside of his career in law, Bradley says he is also a licensed real estate broker and auctioneer. While Butler officially began his real estate career in 1996, he grew up in the auction business — As the son of Nancy Scott Butler and Larry Butler, the real estate and auction business was a fascinating part of his upbringing through his involvement with his parent’s real estate business and his father’s auction company, Larry Butler Realty and Auction.

Butler said this valuable real estate experience, along with his years of service as county attorney, help make him uniquely qualified for the office of district judge, who presides over matters prosecuted by the county attorney.

Prior to his election as county attorney and while maintaining a private practice, Butler also served as Assistant County Attorney of Breckinridge County and as Assistant Commonwealth Attorney for the 46th Judicial District of Grayson, Meade and Breckinridge Counties.

Butler, who is serving his fourth term as Breckinridge County Attorney, said he is proud to serve as a Director of Tri-County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), a charity organization dedicated to helping children and keeping their best interest at the forefront.

Butler said he is a proud Kentuckian and a member of the Breckinridge County Bar Association, the Kentucky Bar Association and the Kentucky County Attorney’s Association.

“The decision to seek the office of District Judge has not been easy as it will require me to give up my private practice as well as my position as county attorney, both of which are important to me; however, the experience and knowledge I have gained from serving in these roles have prepared me for the responsibility of serving as your District Judge,” Butler said. “I look forward to meeting and talking with each of you during the upcoming months and, if elected, to serving you with integrity and with impartiality.”

Butler is married to his hometown sweetheart, Mandy Sizemore Butler, the daughter of Vi Barr and the late Patrick Sizemore, of Irvington. Mandy Butler, a nurse practitioner with the Cloverport Health Clinic of Breckinridge Health, and her husband and son, Brody, are members of and attend Harned United Methodist Church.
