At Tuesday afternoon’s Grayson County Fiscal Court meeting, magistrates voted to advertise for bids for work related to repairing the brick on the Grayson County Government Building on East White Oak Street.
Talk of repairing the outside of the structure, which houses offices, the female detention center and Fiscal Court’s meeting room, pre-dates the current Fiscal Court and Judge-Executive. But the problems associated with bricks coming loose on the building appear to be worsening, necessitating action being taken.
County to purchase tractor/mower
Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson asked for and received approval from magistrates to purchase a 2008 John Deere 7130 tractor/mower with 110 horsepower, 938 hours of use, a 30-foot boom reach, and five-foot bush hog. The state is selling the equipment for $28,000. The mower is worth about $140,000, according to Henderson.
Henderson also stated that the money to purchase the mower/tractor will come from the roughly $33,000 the county accrued selling surplus (old) equipment.
The new equipment replaces a John Deere tractor/mower that’s been cycled out of service.
Robby Higdon working hard
Magistrate Robby Higdon, who is battling a serious illness, has been well enough to attend multiple Fiscal Court meetings despite his sickness, but he has unfortunately missed the last couple of meetings.
Magistrate Tommy Higdon, in ending Tuesday’s meeting, offered the following thoughts on Robby Higdon after he visited him on Tuesday:
“I just want to say something about Robby (Higdon). We all know Robby is a little under the weather; I went down and saw him today and spent a pretty good while with him. And just because he’s not here (doesn’t mean he isn’t working); he was telling me about some of the good calls he’s received about the roads … He wishes he could be here and he wanted to try and get here tonight, but trust me, from what I saw, some notes that he had today, he’s working, he’s doing all he can do. He’s struggling (with his health) but he’s still hanging in there and he wishes he was here. He’s doing a good job.”
