On Wednesday night at approximately 10:00, the Leitchfield Police Department responded to the intersection of the William Thomason Byway and Bobby Bland Way on the report of a single-vehicle accident.

Emergency room workers notified authorities after two subjects, 44-year-old Irvin Dales and 34-year-old Nickki Dales, both of Leitchfield, arrived at the ER complaining of injuries suffered in a car crash.

Upon arriving at the scene, LPD Detective Kevin Smith discovered a southbound Dodge Caravan had left the roadway and struck a light pole, shearing it at its base, before coming to rest in a field. There were no visible brake marks at the scene, and the vehicle traveled about 60 yards after hitting the pole.

The minivan did not have a license plate and the registration had been cancelled in 2006, according to police. Irvin Dales was cited for having no registration and no insurance.

Both Dales were treated and released from the ER.

LPD Officer Chase Melton, who initially responded to the ER, and Grayson County Deputies DJ Newton and Mark Johnson assisted at the scene.
