For the first time in nearly five months, the Eveleigh Bridge has opened to both lanes of traffic.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Chris Jessie said the bridge, at the Grayson/Breckinridge line on Hwy 259 north, opened Saturday night at approximately 6:00.

The bridge closed in early February after a local boater took a picture of a large crack on the underside of the bridge and alerted authorities. Officials have since completed a comprehensive inspection of the much-traveled span (finding no additional issues), with work crews finishing repairs to the original structural problem.

Since then, the bridge, about nine miles north of Leitchfield, has been either completely closed or open to only a single lane of traffic.
