(Elizabethtown, Ky) First responders stand ready to risk their lives for others every day. For those who have what it takes, Elizabethtown Community and Technical College offers the Emergency Medical Services – Paramedic Technology Associate Degree Program and Certificate, through Owensboro Community and Technical College (OCTC). OCTC offers instruction in Elizabethtown, and degrees and certificates are conferred through OCTC.
To be eligible for the Paramedic program, a student must be a certified EMT-B (Emergency Medical Technician – Basic). The EMT-B certification training is offered through ECTC’s fire/rescue program and is eligible for the Work Ready Scholarship, which could pay full tuition for the course.
The Paramedic Program teaches students to provide life-saving care to patients who are acutely ill or injured. Paramedics may work for ambulance services, mobile advanced life support units, or fire departments providing emergency care en route to hospitals.
Graduates can earn an associate degree or certificate and are eligible to take the Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) National Registry Examination. The program meets the standards established by the U.S. Department of Transportation National Standard Training, and KCTCS – Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services (KBEMS). Paramedics are in high demand, and job opportunities increase for those with additional education and certification.
The degree can be completed in two years for students who attend classes full-time. This course will be blended-learning allowing the education tract to be “worker friendly.”There will be lab sessions, clinical sessions and lecture sessions throughout the course.
