Paul Witten has announced his candidacy for 6th District Magistrate in the Republican 2018 Primary Election.
Witten has filed his candidacy papers with the Grayson County Clerk’s Office.
Witten is a retired school teacher at the Grayson County Technology Center, and he said he has always had a passion for serving in his community and for giving back.
Witten said faith is his cornerstone, being a 40 year member of First Baptist Church and an active member of Gideons International.
Witten said his more prominent volunteer activities in the community are likely more felt than seen, as he has worked as a state and international leader through the Leitchfield Lions Club, where he served as a Kentucky Governor in 2005. Witten also said he served as Chairman of the Kentucky Council of Governors in 2015, and a Trustee of Lions Club International Foundation.
He currently serves as Treasurer of the Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation, in Louisville, and a Trustee for Lions Camp Crescendo, in Lebanon Junction.
Witten chaired Grayson County’s first ever Republican Presidential Caucus in 2016, nearly doubling voter turnout from the 2012 primary for the county Republican Party, he said.
“I’m blessed to have a father who cares so much for the community in which he lives, to give of his time and resources like he does, everyday, without remorse and without signs of slowing down,” Aaron Witten, the candidates son and former Grayson County Republican Party Chairman, said. “I have no doubt he will do an incredible job for the people of the 6th District and whole-heartedly endorse his candidacy.”
Witten has lived in Grayson County since 1977 with his wife of 45 years, Betty. They have two sons, Aaron and Jason, a daughter through marriage, Laura, and are the proud grandparents of one grandson, Luke. The entire family, along with two cats and two dogs, live in Grayson County.
