North Hardin High School was placed on lockdown on Monday after a student was found with a handgun.
The incident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. when a student reported to school officials that another student pulled a gun from his backpack while in a bathroom.
“Our SRO responded immediately, and additional law enforcement was requested from the Radcliff Police Department,” Hardin County Schools spokesman John Wright told The News-Enterprise.
The offending student, a 16-year-old male, was quickly located, as officials found a loaded 9mm handgun in his backpack.
The student was arrested by Radcliff police. Radcliff Police Chief Jeff Cross told The News-Enterprise that the student was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon on school grounds, possession of a handgun by a minor and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.
The lockdown was lifted at approximately 2:50 p.m.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
