Three brave and quick-thinking teenagers saved a man who had driven into the Ohio River after experiencing a medical emergency.
The incident happened on Monday at the Greenwood Boat Ramp in the Pleasure Ridge Park/Valley Station area in southwestern Jefferson County.
Louisville Metro Police Department spokesman Aaron Ellis told WDRB.com that a vehicle entered the river at the boat ramp at approximately 6:30 near where three teens, Jacob Cruz, Abraham Cruz and Kenay Valdes, were fishing.
Two of the teens immediately jumped into the river and swam to the vehicle and assisted the driver in exiting the passenger car, Ellis told the Louisville television station. Additionally, the teens tied a rope to a tree and attached to the vehicle to keep it from floating down the river.
“The quick actions from these young men help turn a potential tragic situation into a positive outcome,” Ellis said.
The driver of the vehicle, who was alert at the scene, was transported to a hospital with apparently non-life threatening injuries.
