Anyone who’s recently illegally passed a Grayson County school bus could soon face the consequences.

County Attorney for Grayson County, Jeremy Logsdon, announced at Thursday’s Fiscal Court meeting that multiple drivers will soon be prosecuted for illegally passing school buses.

“We’ve got some new cases coming out that I think will help address an issue that I wasn’t really aware of, but it’s people passing school buses while they’re stopped, and they (the bus drivers) have the stop sign out,” Logsdon told magistrates.

“(The school district) has put equipment on the stop signs to catch these people as they go around,” Logsdon continued. “Whether they’re crossing off to the side or they’re coming across the road, it endangers our young people.”

Incredibly, Logsdon said in only the past 45 days, “nine or 10” drivers have been caught via surveillance video illegally passing school buses.

“So far, I would say, in the past month-and-a-half, I’m about to charge nine or 10 individuals with just simply passing a bus from behind … once they’re stopped and letting off kids or picking up kids.”

Logsdon did not mince words while talking to K105 about incidents, as he stated: “I intend to prosecute these fully because there is no more valuable commodity here in Grayson County than our children.”

If found guilty of illegally passing a school bus, the violator shall be fined between $100 and $200 and/or 30 to 60 days in jail.

For a subsequent offense within three years, offenders face a fine between $300 and $500 and/or 60 days to six months in jail.
