A woman has donated $20,000 to outfit Kentucky State Police K-9 officers with ballistic harnesses.
Debbie Irwin, of Louisville, made the donation to the Kentucky State Police Foundation.
“A lifelong dog lover, Ms. Irwin wanted to ‘help protect the dogs who help protect us,’” the foundation said.
Her gift will fund ballistic harnesses for all Kentucky State Police K-9 officers, “giving them vital protection in the line of duty,” the foundation said in thanking Irwin for the generous financial gift.
The custom-fit harnesses, designed by Canine Tactical, provide ballistic, stab and slash protection for the front-line K-9s. They’re expected to be in use by mid-June.
