A man admitted to “consuming a large amount of methamphetamine” prior to assaulting someone at a Morgantown business.

Morgantown Police Chief Giles Taylor said officers on Monday responded to the Dollar General on South Main Street after 36-year-old Joshua R. Annis, of Morgantown, assaulted a man at the business.

Witnesses confirmed the assault, Taylor said, as “visible injuries were observed on the victim.”

As police interacted with Annis, he became combative, refused commands, and had to be physically restrained. He continued to resist during transport and had to be carried to the cruiser by officers.

“While at the jail, Annis admitted to consuming a large amount of methamphetamine and confirmed he intentionally assaulted the victim,” Taylor said.

He also made threatening statements toward officers during the incident.

Annis was charged with fourth-degree assault, resisting arrest, third-degree terroristic threatening, harassment, and public intoxication. He was lodged in the Butler County Jail.
