A Kentucky man has been sentenced to prison for distributing child porn and other crimes against children as well as for committing a sexual crime against an animal.
Kent Simpkins, 43, of Salyersville, was sentenced on Thursday in Magoffin County to 10 years in prison, according to the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office, which prosecuted the case.
The case began following a cyber tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. As a result, the Kentucky State Police Electronic Crime searched Simpkins’ IP address and social media last year.
“They found multiple images of minors involved in sexual acts, numerous animal sex videos and a video of Simpkins involved in a sexual act with the family’s dog,” the attorney general’s office said.
He pled guilty in November 2024 to distribution of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor (victim under the age of 12), three counts of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor (victim under the age of 12 ), two counts of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor (victim over the age of 12), and sexual crime against an animal.
In addition to the 10-year sentence, Simpkins will be a lifetime registrant on the Kentucky Sex Offender Registry and receive five years of post-incarceration supervision.
“This predator was already far down a dangerous path of criminal activity. We are grateful to the team of detectives and prosecutors whose dedicated efforts will ensure this man is kept far away from children,” Attorney General Russell Coleman said.
