An alleged drunk driver has been arrested after hitting a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) vehicle in a work zone and fleeing the scene on the Western Kentucky Parkway between Leitchfield and Caneyville.
Kentucky State Police arrested 60-year-old Danny Scott Cleaver, of Crestwood, and charged him with DUI, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid, and failure to yield in a road work zone.
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon near the 101-mile marker of the eastbound parkway, KYTC District 4 spokesman Chris Jessie told K105.
“A crew had finished doing some work related to a slide and was picking up traffic control (cones). The equipment truck was hit on the side, mostly impacting the mirror,” Jessie said.
After striking the truck, Cleaver fled but was stopped in Hardin County and arrested by Kentucky State Police.
No one was injured during the incident.
Cleaver was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center but has since been released.
