A Leitchfield woman has been arrested for shooting a female after breaking into the victim’s residence.
The LPD investigation showed that the female victim, who suffered non-life threatening injuries, was transported to the emergency room by a male who fled prior to police arriving.
The victim’s vehicle was located in the parking lot of the hospital and ultimately secured by officers for processing.
Later that day, officers located the suspect’s vehicle on Penner Drive “with apparent blood evidence on the outside of the vehicle,” according to LPD. The vehicle was secured, and search warrants executed on both the victim’s and suspect’s vehicles.
“A handgun was located inside the suspect’s vehicle that is believed to have been the involved weapon in the shooting incident,” LPD said.
Based on statements and evidence, it is believed that the suspect, 26-year-old Destiny Lalond, arrived at the Thomas Street residence and forced entry into the home. She then became engaged in an altercation with the female victim and ultimately shot the victim with a handgun.
Lalond was arrested by Leitchfield police on Wednesday afternoon and charged with first-degree assault and first-degree burglary and lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
