A small town in Butler County lost its city hall to a major fire.
Woodbury City Hall was destroyed early Friday morning, according to Beech Tree News. The fire began while a line of thunderstorms made its way through the area, leaving open the possibility that the structure was struck by lightning.
Woodbury Mayor Vickie House told Beech Tree News that city hall was being remodeled, as the building received a new coat of painting, a floor replacement and a new ceiling over the last few months.
The building was erected in the early 1900s and was formerly used by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a warehouse. It also previously served as a community center.
Woodbury is a town of fewer than 100 residents and is located about five miles south of Morgantown.
