Grayson Co. Emergency Management (GCEM) has released information on the impending heavy rains and high winds slated to strike the county on Wednesday.

“After listening to a conference call from the US National Weather Service Louisville, there are a few things we know and a few things we need to consider for the rest of the week,” GCEM stated.

What we know:

  • Wednesday will start the accumulation of heavy rain that will cause flooding for the rest of the week. Flash flooding is likely to occur.
  • High winds (50-plus miles per hour) and hail Wednesday evening.
  • There is a real chance of tornadoes in western and central Kentucky, particularly on Wednesday. Have a means of receiving alerts, as outdoor warning sirens will most likely not be heard inside, especially in high winds.

Grayson Co. is under a Flood Watch:

  • Prepare for flooding now. We are forecast receive at least eight to 10 inches of rainfall over the next five days.
  • Stay off flooded roadways, do not attempt to cross flooded areas. Take another route.
  • Charge devices, prepare to evacuate areas that are prone to flooding, and have a means of communicating/receiving information.

“Grayson County seems to land right in the middle of rain, storms, flooding, and tornado predictions here recently. The more prepared we are individually, the safer our community will be. The Emergency Operations Center will open ahead of the weather and stay active until the threat is over,” GCEM stated.

There will be lots of calls for service for our first responders. Please help them by planning, preparing, and making smart decisions during this weather event.
