The mother of a three-year-old girl sexually assaulted, strangled and beaten to death by her boyfriend has been convicted of complicity to murder and complicity to strangulation.

Alexandra Ward, 22, of Corbin, was found to be complicit in the strangulation and murder of her daughter, Amoura Smallwood, in February 2023, following a one week trial in Whitley Co. that ended on Tuesday.

The jury recommended a life sentence. She will be formally sentenced on April 21.

Her boyfriend, and the man who pled guilty to beating and killing Amoura, 22-year-old Jordan B. Taylor, of Corbin, was sentenced to life in prison in October 2024.

Amoura suffered brain bleeds and displayed severe blunt force trauma. Police said the child was beaten at her home in Woodbine in Whitley County while Ward was away from the residence.

In August 2023, Taylor was indicted for murder in the death of a Clay County baby in July 2020. The baby, according to a report by WKYT.com, was smothered to death.

According to online records, Taylor has been arrested at least 15 times since 2019 on charges including assault, domestic violence assault, theft by unlawful taking, first-degree terroristic threatening, public intoxication (excludes alcohol), possession of a defaced firearm, and menacing.
