A former Leitchfield Police Department school resource officer and detective who was recently promoted to assistant chief has been lauded by Silverleaf, a regional sexual violence resource center and child advocacy center based in Elizabethtown.

LPD Assistant Chief Ian Renfrow was recognized as Silverleaf’s 2025 Legendary Partner for “his unwavering commitment to victims in Grayson County,” Silverleaf said.

“Assistant Chief Renfrow is a tireless advocate, always ensuring that victims receive the support, respect, and resources they deserve,” Silverleaf stated in recognizing Renfrow. “From working to improve medical exam standards at local hospitals to recognizing the need for enhanced training for School Resource Officers (SROs) and partnering with Silverleaf to make it happen — his dedication knows no bounds.

“His leadership, compassion, and willingness to go the extra mile make a lasting impact on survivors and our community. Thank you, Assistant Chief Renfrow, for standing with us and for victims.”

Renfrow investigated numerous child sexual abuse, exploitation and physical abuse cases while serving as the Grayson Co. High School School Resource Officer and as a detective.

He has additionally “worked to establish strategies for (Leitchfield Police Department’s) electronic crimes investigation and improving the resources available to the agency to further identify and track down child sexual predators,” LPD said.

One of the most important results of Renfrow’s steadfast dedication to sexual assault investigations was, in coordination with Owensboro Health, the establishment of a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) unit at Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center.

He also advocated for and influenced further training for SRO’s in Grayson County, along with the Silverleaf staff, so that victims of sex-related crimes receive the services they need within our community without having to travel to Louisville or Bowling Green.

Renfrow was honored in Frankfort last week for his work as a child sexual/physical abuse advocate.
