4 GCHS students named finalists in WKU writing contest, 1 student wins poetry division

A Grayson County High School student won a statewide WKU writing contest and three other students were finalists in the competition.

Jada Colley, Maddie Bratcher, Ella Decker, and Lily DePoyster were recognized as finalists in the WKU Barbara Ann Wilford Memorial High School Writing Contest, according to Grayson County Schools.

Colley won first place in the poetry division, while Bratcher, Decker and DePoyster were named finalists in the composition division of the contest.

Students were honored at a ceremony and reception at Western’s Cherry Hall on Saturday. Each received gifts for their efforts in writing.

The topic for all four divisions was: “Social media and its effect on the mental of health of teens.” In addition to composition and poetry, the contest offered prose and teacher’s choice categories.
