Multiple fire departments responded to a huge residential blaze in Falls of Rough.

On Saturday night at approximately 7:45, the Falls of Rough, Caneyville, Leitchfield, and McDaniels Fire Departments, EMS, and Grayson Co. Emergency Management responded to the 2300 block of Blue Bird Road on the report of a house fire.

Falls of Rough firefighter Austin Massina, who had responded along with other Falls fire personnel to a medical incident at Rough River Dam State Resort Park Lodge, was on his way home when he observed heavy smoke coming from Blue Bird Road and made his way to the source. As he arrived at the scene of the fire, Massina told K105 that nearly the entire structure was already on the ground.

The residential fire then began spreading into a wooded area (25 to 50 yards in every direction), as the burning home was tightly nestled in the woods on a hillside.

Firefighters worked for well over two hours to extinguish the residential fire, put out the woods fire and conduct an overhaul (check for hot spots).

One of the vacation home’s co-owners told K105 that a cleanup and restoration company out of Evansville, Indiana, was, after recent flooding, drying out the residence with over a dozen fans and humidifiers. He added that the main electrical breaker to the residence was tripped twice in the days before the fire.

While not definitely determined to be the cause of the blaze, the fans and humidifiers are the prime suspects.

No injuries were reported.
