
A Morgantown man wanted in a fatal overdose death last year has been arrested 2,100 miles from his hometown.
Eric Hypes, 43, was arrested in Moscow, Idaho, on Thursday, according to WNKY.com. He was wanted on warrants charging him with second-degree manslaughter, trafficking in a controlled substance (fentanyl) and persistent felony offender in the June 2024 overdose death of an unidentified male at Green River Lodge in Morgantown.
Madison Westmoreland, 25, of Morgantown, was arrested in early March by the Russellville Police Department for her participation in the death. She was charged with second-degree manslaughter, trafficking in a controlled substance (fentanyl, her second such offense) and first-degree persistent felony offender. She’s being held in the Butler County Detention Center.
Both Westmoreland and Hypes have criminal histories, as Westmoreland was convicted in May 2023 in Butler County for fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections. She was granted shock probation in the case.
Hypes was convicted in 2016 of trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine) in Jefferson County, and in 2017 he was convicted of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections.
He has been arrested numerous since 2011 on a multitude of charges, according to online records, including DUI, drug possession, drug trafficking, and tampering with physical evidence among other counts.
