An Ohio County man fell asleep and crossed the center line in a fatal accident in Muhlenberg County.

Kentucky State Police said troopers responded to the crash Friday morning at approximately 4:40 on Hwy 181, about one mile south of the Western Kentucky Parkway near Nebo.

State police said the initial investigation showed that 22-year-old Tyler A. Caple, of Cromwell, was driving a 2011 Buick Enclave south on Hwy 181 when Caple fell asleep. His vehicle crossed the center line and struck a northbound 2014 Mazda 2 head-on. The Mazda was being driven by 61-year-old Nevin P. Bard, of Greenville.

Bard was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Muhlenberg Co. Coroner’s Office. Caple was transported to Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing and being led by KSP accident reconstructionist, Det. Brian Graves.
