
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carl Windell Smith, age 82, on March 26, 2025. He was born on May 10, 1942, in Clarkson the son of John Thomas Smith and Dora Violet (VanMeter) Smith.
Carl spent his life surrounded by the love of his family and community. Carl’s unwavering commitment to his family was evident in everything he did. He was a loving husband to Bessie (Logsdon) Smith for 16 years. He was a devoted father to Brenda Sue Smith, Craig William Smith (Bridget), Cecil Wayne Smith (Monica), and Bonnie Savannah Noltemeyer (David); two stepchildren, Annette Sanders (Keith) and Chris Elmore (Crystal); a brother, Oscar Smith; as well as a proud grandfather to his 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Carl’s greatest joy was spending time outside. Whether it was hunting, fishing, or tending to his garden, he found peace and happiness in nature. Carl was known for his kindness and generosity. He made friends wherever he went and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His wisdom, warmth and laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Dora Smith; his first wife of 40 years, Betty Smith; a son Curtis Smith; and five siblings, Glenn, Charlie, Billy, Jerry, and Kay.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Sunday, March 30, 2026, and again from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on Monday, March 31, 2025, at Leitchfield Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 31, 2025, at the funeral home. Carl’s final resting place will be at Peonia Christian Cemetery, located at the corner of Huffman Road and Peonia Road, where he will rest beside his loved ones.
Carl will forever be in the hearts of those who loved him.
