B. W. Lyons, age 94, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, formerly of Leitchfield, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on August 16, 1930, to the late David Murray Lyons and Grace Whitler Lyons, he lived a life rich in love, service, and community.
A devoted husband to the late Guynd Stiff Lyons, he leaves behind a cherished legacy through his three children: son Gregory Lyons and his wife, Paula, son Bruce Lyons and his wife, Marty, and daughter Lisa Cummings and her husband, Barry. He was a proud grandfather of nine and a great-grandfather to four, whose lives he touched with his warmth and wisdom. He is also survived by his two sisters Doris Moorman and Bonnie Wilson.
B. W. was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Korean War, embodying the spirit of service that characterized much of his life. He was an esteemed member of the Leitchfield First United Methodist Church, where he was actively involved and inspired many through his unwavering faith. His commitment to his community was evident through his participation in the Rotary Club, the Chamber of Commerce, Federated Insurance, Grayson County School Board, WRECC and the KAEC Board.
As the owner-operator of B.W. Lyons Oil Company, he dedicated many years to providing for his family and supporting his community, earning the respect and admiration of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A memorial service will be held in B.W.’s honor 12 noon on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at the Leitchfield First United Methodist Church, a place that held significant meaning in his life. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his remarkable life, reflecting on the myriads of memories shared with him.
Following the service, he will be interred at the Memorial Gardens, a final resting place befitting a man who gave so much to those around him.
Visitation will occur on Monday, March 24, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Leitchfield Funeral Home and again on Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon at the church, where the community is invited to come together to share their remembrances and support the Lyons family during this time of loss.
B.W. Lyons will be remembered for his kindness, strength, and the profound impact he made in the lives of many. As we gather to honor him, let us reflect on the legacy of love and service he leaves behind.
