A fatal officer-involved shooting in Lewis County marks the third such shooting in Kentucky since Sunday morning.
The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team was requested by the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred Tuesday evening at approximately 10:30.
The state police preliminary investigation showed that Lewis County deputies and Vanceburg Police Department officers were dispatched to a domestic violence incident on Little Cabin Creek Road near Tollesboro, where a male subject was reported to be shooting a firearm.
After arriving, officers encountered 49-year-old Keith Truesdell, of Vanceburg, who was armed with a firearm and fired the weapon toward police, striking a Lewis County deputy.
The deputies returned fire, striking Truesdell. He was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The Lewis County deputy was transported to a local hospital and has since been released.
The investigation remains ongoing.
