Kentucky State Police and the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office were involved in a vehicle pursuit that ended with the suspect dead and a Trigg County deputy hospitalized with a gunshot wound.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at 11:50 a.m. when a suspect fled in his vehicle after troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop near the 42-mile marker of I-24 eastbound in Caldwell County. The pursuit continued into Trigg County where deputies joined the chase, state police said.

While fleeing, the suspect was involved in a single-vehicle crash near the 65-mile marker of I-24, at the Cadiz exit, as the suspect left his vehicle in a field and fled on foot.

During the foot pursuit, the suspect began shooting at law enforcement, striking a deputy. Three Trigg County deputies returned fire, hitting the suspect, 21-year-old Jermaine T. Jackson Jr., of Florissant, Missouri.

Jackson was pronounced deceased at the scene. The unnamed Trigg County deputy was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition.
