A Grayson County man has turned himself into authorities after pointing a rifle at Grayson County deputies.
The incident occurred Sunday night at approximately 11:30 when Grayson County deputies Caleb Owens and Joel Baker were parked in the 5900 block of Spurrier Road, near the intersection of Lacon Skaggs Road. The deputies were in the area conducting an investigation regarding recent thefts.
As the deputies were parked, 65-year-old Brent W. Redmon, of Big Clifty, exited his nearby home and pointed an “AR-style rifle” at the deputies, who announced to Redmon that they were Grayson County deputies.
Redmon responded by saying he wanted them to leave, before eventually running back into his home.
Deputies contacted Kentucky State Police, which dispatched multiple troopers to the scene. Leitchfield Police Department Officers Wally Ritter and Justin Cockerel also responded and provided backup.
Deputies made contact with the suspect via telephone, according to Sheriff Norman Chaffins, as Redmon told police he wasn’t coming outside unless they had a warrant.
A discussion between the on-scene deputies and sheriff’s office supervisors resulted in a decision to de-escalate the situation, and apply for an arrest warrant, as police opted to exit the scene and arrest Redmon on Monday, Chaffins said.
The suspect, though, surrendered to police on Monday afternoon.
He was charged with multiple counts of first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, first-degree wanton endangerment, fleeing or evading police (on foot), and second-degree disorderly conduct. Redmon was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
