A wood-burning stove that rolled over caused a fire that destroyed a Grayson County residence.

The Caneyville and Leitchfield Fire Departments, EMS, and Grayson County Emergency Management responded to the blaze Thursday night at approximately 7:00 in the 3900 block of Hopewell Road.

Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found a mobile home fully engulfed in flames. Fire personnel contained the blaze to only the mobile home, protecting nearby residences.

The fire began when a round, homemade wood-burning stove (see photos below) rolled over, according to Caneyville Fire Chief Brian Pharris. The mobile home’s occupant further told Pharris that someone had been working on the stove’s flue and forgot to place wedges back at the base of the stove. Absent the wedges, the stove rolled over and spilled its contents onto the floor, rapidly catching the residence on fire.

Firefighters conducted a detailed overhaul and cleared the scene at approximately 8:30. No injuries were reported.
