A man has died after his vehicle struck a guardrail, disabling his steering wheel and causing him to hit a vehicle head-on.

Kentucky State Police said troopers responded to the crash Thursday morning at approximately 6:30 on Hwy 555 in Washington County.

The investigation showed that 56-year-old James Drury, of Lawrenceburg, was traveling south on Hwy 555 in a 2015 Jeep Wrangler when he lost control due to ice on the roadway at a bridge crossing, state police said.

The jeep struck the bridge’s guardrail multiple times, which disabled the vehicle’s steering.

“With no control of his vehicle,” according to state police, Drury crossed the center line into the northbound lane where he collided head-on with a 2020 Ford F-150, being driven by 26-year-old David Waldridge, of Bardstown.

Drury was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Washington County Coroner’s Office.

Waldridge and his passenger, 32-year-old Dustin Pulley, of Campbellsville, sustained serious injuries and were transported to local hospitals.
